Islam believes Jesus will come again — Saheed Salmon

The Imam of Federal College of Technology, Yaba Mosque, Imam Saeed Salmon has said that Islam also believes in the second coming of Jesus Christ, emphasising that any Muslim who does not believe in it is not a true follower of Prophet Muhammed.
Kaaba-Mecca
Salmon who made this known at a special lecture held at the Lagos Central Mosque, Tinubu, said,  Jesus is a messenger of God and would still return to a mosque in Damascus.
“The second coming of Jesus Christ is a doctrine that every Muslim must believe. The teachings of prophet Muhammed talks extensively about this.
The Qua’ ran Chapter 4:157-159 teaches this but the teachings of Islam does not support that Jesus was killed or resurrected, rather, he was raised by Almighty Allah to his majesty.”
“Jesus is coming again to refute the claim of the Jews that he was crucified and to correct the doctrine of the Christians that he is the son of God.
Again, the second coming of Jesus is to establish that there is a close relationship between Prophet Muhammed and Jesus himself.”
The Chief host and organiser of the lecture, Amir Ajala Kamardeen noted that he is under the obligation as a true Muslim to educate the public and to correct any  misconception about Islam.
“Jesus is a prophet and messenger of Allah and as a true Muslim, we are bound to believe all prophets of Allah.
The holy book ,Qur’an points to the fact that the second coming of Jesus Christ is a sign of end time but there are some group of Muslims in Harvard University and in Cairo known as the fatimists and also Ahmadists who are saying otherwise, so, I have put it upon myself to correct them.”

Photos: Justin Bieber's mug shot released

Justin Bieber was arrested early this morning for driving under the influence, drag racing & resisting arrest in Miami. His mug shot has been released to the public and isn't he so cute? Nobody is stealing his vibe, Justin made sure to look nice with his hair nicely combed for his mug shot.

Justin has already faced a judge and posted bail. Continue...

From TMZ
According to the police report -- obtained by TMZ -- cops approached Bieber's car and they instantly realized he reeked of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes.  He had a "stupor" look on his face.

The police report says ... Bieber was defiant from the get-go, yelling at the cops, "Why the f**k are you doing this?"  He also yelled, "What the f**k did I do.  Why did you stop me?"

When the officer tried to perform a routine pat down, Bieber said, "I ain't got no f**king weapons, why do you have to search me?  What the f**k is this about?"  Bieber claimed he wasn't drunk and coming back from recording music.  That's not true, because we knew he was at a club.

Now the basis for the resisting arrest charge -- Before the pat down, as Bieber got out of the car, he "kept going into his pants pocket."  The cop ordered him to put his hands on the vehicle, and Bieber initially complied but soon took his hands off the car, turned and then cussed out the cop. The cop then grabbed Justin by the right arm, Justin pulled his arm away, and said, "What the f**k are you doing?"

The report says Justin was driving between 55 and 60 MPH in a 30 MPH residential area.

So wait, young people take cough syrup Codeine to get high?

I've been getting emails from some young people asking me to talk about this. Apparently some of our young men and women take the cough syrup Codeine to get high. Seriously? I hear they either drink it alone or mix it with a soft drink and instead of taking just a table spoon, they down the whole bottle or half its content and this makes them high, calm and helps them sleep.

They basically overdose on this medicine recommended by doctors to help with cough. Wow!!

The demand for Codeine by these young folks is so high that it's now expensive and scarce. So, how did this start? Who figured that a cough syrup would make anyone high? I don't know much about this so let's discuss it here. Do you know people who overdose on Codeine? Is it as dangerous as they say it is? Has it ever killed anyone? Please share your thoughts...

Naomi Oni's friend Mary Konye found guilty of acid attack

Mary Konye, the 21 year old jealous friend accused of attacking Naomi Oni with acid on Dec. 30th 2012 while disguised in a Muslim veil has been found guilty of the crime.

The jury heard how a day after attacking her friend with acid that disfigured her for life, Mary Konye pretended to give her a shoulder to cry on, sending Naomi a text that read "OMG, I can't believe it."

The pair, who had been friends since secondary school, fell out in April 2011 after Naomi allegedly accused Konye of texting her boyfriend and called her an "ugly monster".

Konye later claimed in court that Naomi set up the attack and asked her (Mary) to 'play the stalker' and throw the acid on her face, which was all part of an elaborate plan to be rich and famous. But the jury of eight men and four women didn't buy her story and found her guilty.

Mary Konye will be sentenced March 7th.

Photos: Mayhem in Lasu as students disrupt exams, stone VC

There has been chaos at the Lagos State University Campus, Ojo since yesterday after students of the institution and school authorities clashed over the closure of the university’s registration portal.

Students went on rampage this morning, destroying properties and disrupting exams schedule to hold today after their Vice Chancellor Prof. John Obafunwa refused to re-open the registration portal for 1292 students left to register for the current 2nd semester examinations which starts today because they couldn't raise the new N250,000 school fees on time.

Students gathered for over 9 hours in front of the senate building of the school yesterday 22nd of Jan. where the VC had a meeting concerning the re-opening of the portal but apparently the meeting didn't yield anything positive as the portal wasn't re-opened. According to the students, only 708 were able to register before the portal was shut again leaving 1292 students to their fate.

The VC reportedly said students yet to register are insignificant and would automatically have to carry the session over. This statement led to the riot today.

Students who went into the exam hall this morning were injured by protesting fellow students while exam papers and cards were destroyed. The VC wasn't spared also as his car was destroyed by rioting students who are insisting that the portal must re-open before examinations can commence in the school. The school authorities invited over 100 riot police to calm the situation down. Continue...

The students blocked the school main gate and made bonfires on the Lagos-Badagry expressway. They threw sticks and stones at the Vice Chancellor’s convoy as he made to escape through an alternative route from the school. His car was allegedly destroyed in the protest.

The students are now calling for the VC's resignation and reduction in Tuition fees.

PDP chairman, Mu’azu begs Amaechi, Kwankwaso, others; urges return to PDP -

NATIONAL Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Ahmed Muazu, yesterday, apologized publicly to the five governors, lawmakers and other stakeholders who dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the party was sorry over what happened.
Jonathan-wth-the-G5-governorsMuazu also pleaded with the G5 governors to return to PDP in the spirit of patriotism, against the backdrop that the party had helped them get to where they are. Muazu stressed that the doors were open for the former party members in the PDP.
He spoke when he received Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, who was at the National Secretariat on a solidarity visit.
Muazu noted that his leadership would continue to strengthen and deepen the nation’s democracy, adding that plans had been concluded to set up a very high powered reconciliation committee that would comprise major stakeholders and leaders to reach out to everyone especially those who defected.
Muazu specifically pleaded with Lamido to help reach out to his colleagues who left the party to create an enabling environment as the leadership planned to meet and beg them to come back.
According to him, the present National Working Committee, NWC, would look into everything that happened with a view to addressing the problems holistically, as his leadership would ensure that all injustices and wrongs done to the defectors and other aggrieved PDP members would be thoroughly looked into and reviewed.
In the wake of the problems in the party arising from irreconcilable differences, Governors Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto; Ahmed Abdulfatih of Kwara, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa States left the PDP for APC.
But Muazu said, “Whatever be the case, I appeal to them (defectors) to let us correct it and move ahead. We will look at the various things that made our party to shrink in size. We are going to be bold to correct whatever injustice had been done.
“Please talk to the G-5 governors on our behalf before we go to them; appeal to their senses of patriotism; appeal to their senses of commitment to the PDP because PDP is Nigeria. Let us accept peace and move forward. I have seen the need to form a high level committee very soon to undertake genuine reconciliation in the party.
“I will like to appeal to you (Lamido) to be part of us, come with us to go and see all those who had been offended to tell them that we are sorry. Again, I appeal to all who had gone to come back home. We will deepen internal democracy so that if we succeed, anybody with our ticket will be sure of victory during elections.”
Earlier, Lamido who was accompanied by his deputy, the three Senators from his state, the 11 House of Representatives members, the National Vice Chairman, North West, Ibrahim Kazuare, among others, told Muazu that he had a very great task ahead of him, stressing that he was confused on whether to commiserate with him or congratulate him.
According to Lamido, what happened during the tenure of the immediate past National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was very unfortunate as  impunity became the order of the day, culminating in the defection of five governors, legislators and other notable stakeholders.

Obasanjo, Jonathan and the futility of power

THE mystery of life is  unfathomable. It is endless and beyond comprehension. Man has tried several times, to dig into this mystery through logic, science and theology. Each time man makes a breakthrough, life’s mystery is further compounded. The wise ones amongst us accept this fact with humility and tend to do the best of their abilities, leaving the rest to a higher authority. Nelson Mandela accepted this fact, when he claimed with humility, that he was human and subject to human mistakes. In accepting this fact with humility, he became great. He handed over power to a younger Thambo Mbeki without any form of manipulation, leaving South Africa with a genuine structure of democracy, which has seen the further un-sitting of Mbeki.
Clearly, President Jonathan has shown from his performance, that he still has a long way to go. The weight of the position is telling heavily on him and he needs  more skills to meander through the land mines laid out for him. Whether deliberately or inadvertently, he encouraged and deserves all the accusations levied against him by President Obasanjo and the likes – but, is it a coincidence that the five npdp governors defection, Sanusi’s letter, Tambuwal’s attack and Obasanjo’s ‘ epistle’, are all coming out, at the same time?
Jonathan must clear this mess by addressing all the issues raised by the ex- President. Meanwhile, Nigerians must ponder and ask; who created the foundation, for this rot we are faced with? We forget too easily.
Flash back to Nigeria, during the period of 1999 to 2007. Obasanjo’s PDP was in power. Like Mandela, a lot was expected from Obasanjo, because he has seen it all – from grace to grass, to grace – The Yorubas, his own people, rejected him but the cabal, made up of retired generals and their civilian acolytes used their influence and power to put him in power..
Now the activities of Obasanjo, as civilian president, during the period 1999 to 2007, are already chronicled in history of Nigeria. A lot of good will squandered and missed opportunity to build an enduring structure for democracy.
I read through the open letter  Obasanjo addressed to President Jonathan and have found him, guilty of almost- if not all – of the allegations  he has hung on Jonathan. Jonathan is only following in his footsteps.
Have we forgotten so soon how the party machinery was seized from Lar barely a month into Obasanjo’s government and Okadigbo, who was the party’s choice, dumped for old man Enwerem as senate president? Have we forgotten so soon, how many party chairmen the PDP produced under Obasanjo as president and party leader? Have we forgotten that Atiku’s fall out with Obasanjo was as a result of Obasanjo reneging on agreement not to re-contest election? Have we forgotten the security challenges, of the sharia states that have  metamorphosed  into the present Boko haram? We forget too easily in this country. Have we forgotten NNPC  under Obasanjo and Gaius Obaseki? How is it different from NNPC today? Have we forgotten how PTDF money was used to buy cars for lady friends? Obasanjo held on to the petroleum ministry for eight years with all the perks and secrecy. What about Halliburton and Siemens? What about Coja and power, that was dispensed to family members and cronies? Have we forgotten the activities of Iyabo Obasanjo? Wonder -  what happened to the case in court – It is endless. Why should Obasanjo expect Jonathan to perform differently? He has sown the wind, he is now reaping the whirlwind. Jonathan is a product of Obasanjo, the only difference is that Jonathan does not have the character and ruthlessness, to deal with his political foes like Obasanjo – almost everyone that opposed him, never came back. Definitely there has been a parting of ways between Jonathan and Obasanjo, that is why the pot is calling the kettle black. The new kids on the block have taken over control of the party and government; Obasanjo, had to fight back. Imagine, an Obasanjo, writing two letters to the President and not getting the courtesy of even an acknowledgement – reference Obasanjo’s open letter to Jonathan.
This is a big lesson for all those in authority; power is transient, do not build institutions around yourself, it won’t last. Build enduring structures of transparency, good government and democracy. Obasanjo failed to set basic standards of ethics and integrity, we are seeing the result in Jonathan’s government.
It is a good thing for Nigeria, it is a lesson for those in power and those looking forward to joining them.

ASUU: Looking into the future

ASUU has resumed duties, after  six good months of lost mann hours, in productivity and other collateral damages, in the form of accidents and deaths. The losses cannot be quantified, for example; counterparts of final year students, in the private universities, are months into their National Youth Service programme.
Now that the strike is over, let us examine this ASUU – government relationship dispassionately, and in the process offer solutions, that, we  hope, will help prevent future re-occurrence, that is; if heeded by all  parties concerned.
The standard industrial relations structure comprises of three bodies; The government, The employer and The employee. Ideally, where(when) there is a dispute between the employer and employee, the government serves as the mediator but in cases, where  government is the employer, like we have in ASUU, arbitration bodies are set up, and if these fail to work, the matter is referred to the industrial courts. Throughout the five months period of strike, we did not hear that any of these processes were activated. If, this was the case, it means that something is wrong with the way our system works.
Labour and Employer relationship is not all about fighting. In fact, the fewer the fights, the more productive the workers. It is important that, all parties realize the essence of a trouble free work calendar.
There is supposed to be an understanding of the facts on ground, as it affects the ability of the business to function, both on the side of the employer and  employee. Under such conditions, it is the obligation of the employer to explain the challenges facing the business and how it affects the interest of the workers. Therefore, there must be effective communication between the employer and the representatives of the workers.
Clearly, this was missing in the relationship between government officials and ASUU. ASUU as a body, has  intellectuals in its membership, convincing them to understand government’s inability to fulfil its obligations should not be a problem. Why was it difficult for government to lure ASUU to its side? My take on this, is that, there was no openness or sincerity of purpose on the part of  government. If ASUU is convinced- with clear proofs – that government, from generated incomes, cannot meet its obligations, they would not have gone the extent they did, in calling for a strike action.
However, when government is engaged in open profligacy, channelling funds, that are meant for educational development, to frivolous projects, they are bound to face resistance.  ASUU members have seen the colossus called, corruption and how it has taken over the country – pension funds, petrol subsidy, NCAA, oil thieves et al.  They also know that if these wastes are halted, there will be enough fund to tackle the challenges of university education. If this is the situation, the government, should have negotiated with ASUU on the basis of their determination to tackle corruption, with clear action plans outlined and convincing enough to make the ASUU sheath its sword. Henceforth, government must be more forthcoming on the state of the economy and how income is allocated and managed. All forms of secrecy, that is associated with government’s management must be discarded. If you come open to ASUU, the association will be open to government. If both parties are truly convinced about government’s inability to perform, it will be fool hardy to engage in strike actions. I repeat, government must be open and sincere.

Ihejirika: Ndigbo to head to ICC over Biafra massacre

THE proposed plan by Professor Ango Abdullahi’s Northern Elders Forum to drag former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, to the International Criminal Court of Justice, ICC, in Hague over alleged killing of civilians at Baga town, Borno State, has drawn the ire of Ndigbo who have indicated interest to take Nigeria to the same court for the massacre of two million Igbo people during the civil war.
Prof. Abdullahi’s group had recently said that plans were in top gear to drag the former army chief and six others to ICC over their alleged involvement in the killing of innocent civilians at Baga, while the military engaged Boko Haram insurgents living in the midst of civilians.
Chukwumerije speaks
But reacting to the alleged plan yesterday, Senator Uche Chukwumerije said that the purported plan to take the former COAS to ICC would be a good opportunity for the people of the South East and Anioma in Delta State to drag the country to the world court for the massacre of over two million Ndigbo during the Nigeria/Biafra civil war.
Chukwumerije, who was in-charge of Biafran Information during the war, said:  “The plan of Northern Elders Forum to drag the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, and six others to International Criminal Court of Justice in Hague is capable of unleashing a national ill-wind that will do no one (including Prof. Ango Abdullahi’s group) any good in this federation.
“The approach of the group to a national problem is selective, patently biased apparently in search of preconceived culprits, pointedly indifferent to the demands of national unity, and highly provocative to the sensibilities of all who genuinely desire the unity and stability of this federation.
Opening the Pandora Box
“As Ango Abdullahi’s team opens the doors and walks into the hall of the world court, let them realize that they have at last opened the Pandora’s Box.
“The indigenes of Odi, Zaki-Biam and Katsina Ala will in quick succession file into the hall. At the same time, Ndigbo of South East and Anioma will dust their files and head for Hague.
“Let it be emphasized ab initio that senseless sacrifice of a human life is indefensible. Violations of human rights have remained the bane of Africa. A society that has no respect for human life is nearer the status of a community of animals.
“But the situation in the universally acknowledged difficult terrain of a borderless war such as terrorism, counter terrorism and guerilla-like conflicts offers a unique challenge. The motives of Prof. Ango Abdullahi and co are obviously beyond concerns about violations of human rights.
“Every citizen (including Prof. Ango Abdullahi) knows that the anti-terrorism campaign in the North is a joint military operation under the command of the Chief of Defence Staff. In singling out Lt. General Ihefirika, the then Army boss, the likes of Prof. Ango Abdullahi are merely betraying old prejudices and embarking on a new hazardous search for bad names to hang hated dogs.
“Besides, the fact that Prof. Ango Abdullahi and co sprung into action immediately Lt. General Ihejirika and six others left their commands has revealed the depth of long-smoldering resentment of the campaign against Boko Haram by self-proclaimed leaders of the North.”
Baga and Hague adjudication
Senator Chukwumerije wondered why the Northern Elders Forum would single out the Baga incident for Hague’s adjudication.
He said further:  “We have seen in the past cases of wholesale massacres which were not only more gruesome than Baga’s but proven as true unlike. Ango Abdullahi and co kept silent.
“There was the case of Odi in which a whole community was decimated. There was the case of Zaki-Biam. There was the case of Katsina Ala. If Odi did not arouse the conscience of Ango Abdullahi because the people do not belong to his hallowed Northern enclave, how about Zaki-biam and Katsina Ala?”

Subsidy scam: Witness denies theft of N968.7m

A banker, Mr. Uchenna Adobaka, yesterday, testified before an Ikeja High Court that an oil marketer, Mr. Rowaye Jubril, answering charges of stealing oil subsidy fund borrowed money from his bank to finance fuel importation into the country.
Adobaka, a Deputy Manager, Energy Group of Spring Bank, who appeared as an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s, EFCC, witness contradicted the evidence presented before the same court, yesterday, wherein it was disclosed that the oil marketer did not import the fuel for which he was paid  N963.7 million as subsidy fund.
Jubril is currently being prosecuted by the EFCC alongside his company, Brila Energy Ltd., for allegedly obtaining the money under pretence to import 13,500 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS.
In his evidence before the court, he told Justice Lateefa Okunnu that Jubril approached his bank sometime in 2010 requesting for a loan to enable him import some quantity of petroleum products approved to be imported by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, PPPRA.
He said, a credit facility of $11.9 million was thereafter granted to him to execute the business transaction.
While being cross examined by Jubril’s lawyer, the witness  said to enable them monitor the utilisation of the fund,  the bank appointed General Marine and Oil Services Ltd. to supervise the importation and discharge of the product on its behalf.
However, he informed the court that the company wrote to Spring Bank admitting that they did not supervised the discharge of the product at Obat Jetty in Lagos, adding that there were some discrepancies in the shipping documents submitted by General Marine Oil Services Ltd. and their corresponding bank, Union Bank UK, on the transaction.
Further hearing was adjourned till April 28, 2014.

Trader stabbed to death in Ladipo market

A trader has been stabbed to death as fresh crisis erupted at Ladipo auto spareparts market in Mushin, Lagos State.
According to reports, the trader, simply identified as Sunny, was stabbed and he later bled to death during a fight that broke out at the market when some aggrieved traders stormed the market union’s office and chased the executives away.
The traders were calling for the dissolution of Ladipo Auto Central Executive Committee, LACEC, the central body of the union.
The aggrieved traders said the leaders had breached all the agreements they had with the Lagos State government when the market was shut.
They feared that if the executives were allowed to remain, the state government might close the market again to their disadvantage.
They listed some of the offences as street trading, parking on roads and collection of illegal tolls, using thugs to harass and intimidate traders and customers.
According to the reports, the protest later resulted in fracas between the two groups which caused the death of Sunday.
The police at Olosan Division  later recovered the body of the victim and deposited it at an undisclosed  mortuary in Lagos.

Pastor remanded for killing colleague in church

An  Osogbo chief magistrate court, yesterday, ordered a 47-year-old cleric, Pastor Julius Adepoju, to be remanded in Ilesa prison for allegedly killing his fellow pastor inside a church.
The accused allegedly perpetuated the act on January 15, 2014 at about 8:20 pm at The Apostolic Church of Nigeria Mission, Lawna Territory, Ede District, Gbongan, headquarters of Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun state.
Adepoju allegedly stabbed a co-Pastor, Oguntoye, to death after an argument  between them at the church premises.
The police prosecutor, Mr Oladoye Joshua, a sergeant, told the court that the accused allegedly used a jack-knife to stab Oguntoye during an argument.
He told the court that the two Pastors had earlier engaged in a fisticuff  over an issue before the accused eventually stabbed him to death.
The prosecution maintained that the accused was allegedly responsible for the untimely death of Pastor Oguntoye, stressing that the offence was against the law of the land.
According to him, the accused person committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
However, the plea of the accused person who was represented by Mrs Nnenna Ngwu was not taken due to the nature of the offence he committed.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Adebayo Lasisi, ordered the accused person to be remanded in Ilesa prison.
He subsequently adjourned the case till March 7, 2014.

Michael has been charged with five counts of recklessly risking infection of another with HIV since November. Authorities said they have only identified one of the men in the tapes, and are trying to find out the identities of the others; many of the men seen having sex with Johnson might have met him through social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as on campus.

St. Charles County prosecutor Tim Lohmar told KMOV that “it’s safe to say that numerous of those videos were taken inside his dorm room; we know that because we recognize the furniture.” Continue

3 feared dead, scores missing in fresh Tiv, herdsmen clash

Three persons have been reportedly killed while several have been declared missing in a clash that erupted Sunday morning between Fulani herdsmen and Tiv natives in Adeke village, which is less than four kilometres from the heart of Makurdi town.
When Vanguard visited the troubled community, yesterday, the inhabitants of the village had fled their homes for fear of being killed by the rampaging herdsmen.
It would be recalled that crisis broke out in Adeke, weekend, after suspected Tiv youths allegedly killed over 30 cows belonging to some herdsmen residing in the area, leading to the break down of peace in the community.
Since the commencement of the crisis, all schools, shops and other business outlets as well as the mammy market near the mobile police barracks in the area had remained closed.
It was also gathered that the herdsmen who had lived in a settlement within the community had since the commencement of the crisis evacuated their children and wives to neighbouring Nasarawa State preparatory to a major onslaught.
A mobile police officer who spoke to Vanguard on grounds of anonymity, said: “There is palpable tension in the entire community. Three persons have lost their lives in this crisis and many are still missing. No one is sure of the next move of the herdsmen, that is why most families have deserted their homes.”
Reacting to the development, the lawmaker representing Makurdi South constituency at the State House of Assembly, Mr. Benjamin Adanyi said: “With what we see happening in Adeke, I would not be surprised if the Fulani mercenaries decide to match into the heart of Makurdi town in the coming days.
“I strongly believe this could be an orchestrated plan by the caliphate to annihilate smaller communities and extend its influence over them.”
On his part, the Benue state Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Archbishop Yiman Orkwar said: “A jihad has been declared on Benue State and the Federal Government seems unperturbed and people are being killed by people who have no regards for human lives.”
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Ezeala said security had been beefed up in the community to forestal further crisis.

FRAUD: EFCC arrests man for cloning Fashola’s wife, Okonjo-Iweala’s Facebook accounts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a Lagos State University graduate for cloning the Facebook accounts of prominent Nigerians and using same to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
Before his arrest, yesterday, Anthony Ezechukwu, 38, had successfully used the names of Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala;  wives of Lagos State Governor, Dame Abimbola Fashola, Federal Capital Territory Minister, Aisha Bala Mohammed and the Director of the Abuja Geographical Information Systems, AGIS, Jamilah Tangaza to transact his illegal business and smile to the bank.
*Anthony Ezechukwu, the suspect.
*Anthony Ezechukwu, the suspect.
According to EFCC, Ezechukwu went on to solicit for various forms of business and assistance that fetched him hundreds of thousands of Naira after cloning the accounts of the prominent Nigerians.
Findings showed that in each of the instances, Ezechukwu devised clever baits to lure his victims. Once he successfully opened a Facebook account with the false identity of a Mrs. Fashola, he began to send out messages soliciting for friendship, which yielded enormous responses from innocent respondents, who wanted to seize the moment to be friend to the Lagos First Lady.
But on noticing the stream of friends on the Facebook, the suspect started directing them to ‘her personal assistant’, who in turn demanded for various sums of money from them to connect them with influential people in government and the society.
Also, in the account he opened using the name and photograph of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Ezechukwu claimed that he had job offers and directed interested job seekers to ‘her schedule officer’ (he also doubles as schedule officer) who in turn asked them to make payments into a designated bank account.
How he met his waterloo
But Ezechhukwu met his waterloo when he cloned the Facebook account of Jamilah Tangaza, the current AGIS Director, who is an ICT expert and had served as media director to the FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed before her recent appointment.
With his address as www.facebook.com/agis.jamilahtangaza.9, Ezechukwu set about exploiting the office of the influential AGIS boss to have his cut of the lucrative apple that is Abuja property sector.
His bait came in the form of a message: “In my certified, endorsed and approved capacity, as the Director General of Abuja Geographical Information System, AGIS, officially appointed by FCT minister (Senator Bala Mohammed) and his administration on presidency acceptance and approvals (sic) to take control of all lands and houses sales (sic) in FCT Abuja.
“Then I warned, using this medium to advised (sic) the general public those who wish to buy land and houses in FCT Abuja to channel all the inquiries, consultation and payment to me…”
The poorly constructed message notwithstanding, some persons who are desperate to own land or houses in the FCT fell for it and began to wire money into his account.
The Facebook account he opened in the name of the wife of the FCT minister, Aisha Muhammed, turned out to be very rewarding.
In a post on the account, he claimed that the FCT had soft loan worth N10 million for disbursement to individuals but offered forms to interested persons at the rate of N100, 000.
Unknown to the public that it was a scam, a certain Usman Ahmed paid N100, 000 into a designed account with a new generation bank.
Ezechukwu was, however, nabbed following a complaint by Tangaza. He is currently assisting investigators probing the scam and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded

Also arrested by the police is Joseph Endurance, the deceased lover said to have been responsible for her pregnancy.
The quack nurse, Favour Adebiyi, was reportedly approached by the deceased to help her abort the pregnancy.

Marriage Law: US threatens to sanction Nigeria

Leading western countries piled pressure on the Federal government, yesterday, following President Goodluck Jonathan’s signing of the Same-Sex Prohibition Act 2014. The latest country is the United States of America, whose Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle threatened that  the United States will scale down its support for HIV/AIDS and anti-malaria programmes in response to the Federal Government’s position on the gay rights issue.
Member countries of the European Union and Canada have expressed their objection to the law but United States Ambassador to Nigeria said he was worried about “the implications of the anti-same sex marriage law which seems to restrict the fundamental rights of a section of the Nigerian population.”
This came as a former Nigerian Ambassador to US, Dahiru Suleiman, yesterday, described homosexuality and lesbianism as “animalistic and degrading to humanity.”
Also yesterday Christians in the northern part of Nigeria under the aegis of Christian Association of Nigeria in the 19 northern states an Abuja,  hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for signing into law the anti-gay bill, urging him to ignore criticisms from Western nations, saying all religions in the country are united in their condemnation of same-sex marriage.
