ESUT sacks 5 for altering students' grades

Enugu - The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has sacked five staff members, including a senior lecturer, for altering students’ grades.

A statement from the university said in Enugu on Tuesday that four lecturers and one computer operator were involved in the scandal.

It listed the affected staff members as Ibiyemi Ariyo, Senior Lecturer; Ikechukwu Onah, Lecturer II; Chikezie Aneke, Assistant Lecturer; Nnamdi Okomba, Assistant Lecturer, and Christy Okoro, Computer Operator.

The statement, signed by Ossy Ugwuoti, the Director of Public Relations of the university, said the affected persons were from the  Department of Computer Engineering.

It said Onah, who was the head of the department, engaged the others in the alteration of the grades submitted to him by lecturers during the computation of final year results.

The statement said the ESUT Governing Council took the decision at its 129th regular meeting.

The council, according to the statement, reiterated its warning to take severe disciplinary action on any worker involved in any form of academic fraud.
