The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) at the weekend said it resumed its suspended strike last Friday due to lack of commitment on the part of the Federal Government to growth of the technological sector.
The group vowed that it would not go back on the strike till all its demands are met.
The zonal coordinator (Zone C) Comrade Babatunde Dosumu who spoke on behalf of the South-west chapter of the group in Abeokuta, lamented that despite its ultimatum to government, nothing was done.
“Our efforts have been to call government’s attention and action on the need for constitution of Governing Councils of polytechnics, the migration of the lower cadres on the CONTISS 15 salary scale, the release of the White Paper on the visitations to federal polytechnics, the need for the commencement of Needs Assessment of polytechnics, among others,” he said.
The ASUP South-west coordinator lamented the continued appointment of unqualified persons as rectors and provosts of polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of technologies by some state governments, the imposition of professors from outside the polytechnic sector as rectors and the refusal of most state governments to implement the approved salary packages (CONPCASS).
