Chelsea Set To Offload Two Defenders For A Combined Fee Of £40 Million

The Daily Star report that Chelsea are ready to clear their squad this summer so that soon to be reinstated Manager Jose Mourinho can build the team the way he wants, and that the self proclaimed ‘Special One’ has given the green signal to the club to sell defenders Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz to Barcelona for a combined fee of 40 million pounds.
Mourinho wishes to add the funds to the transfer kitty he has been handed by Club owner Roman Abramovich to beef up the team in key areas, including bringing in a top class defender in Frenchman Eliaquim Mangala, Italian hard-man Daniele de Rossi and Uruguayan super striker Edinson Cavani.
Mourinho sees David Luiz as a disaster waiting to happen in defense, and wants no part of the Brazilian’s brand of defending at Chelsea, where he has always maintained an extremely tight ship. Ivanovic meanwhile, despite scoring the winning goal for Chelsea in the Europa League final is already 29 years old, and the club are happy to cash in on him rather than offering him an expensive new contract which will carry him well into his 30s.
