Beauty For Ashes! Priscilla-Joy Shares the Story of Survival After Rape & Abuse as a Child

It truly is a big deal that I’ve grown to love and accept myself – not only as a human being but as a woman. I remember when I was a little girl, I hated everything about me: from my body to my feelings. The reason why I had those feelings and the fact that I was born female. I thought that my gender defined me, I thought that being a girl meant that I was weak and inconsequential, I looked at my body and felt that God must have made a mistake to put it together to form me if I was born to be a play thing for the male folk from as little as I was back then. I wondered how it was possible that I was made that way – and at the same time, be given the ability to feel what I felt. And yes I felt shame, sometimes anxiety, other times hopelessness and a dreadful panic that maybe I would grow to constantly experience these unwanted and vile sexual encounters with wicked men whose only thoughts were to molest me.
So, I grew up with these thick walls around me that enabled me to keep people at a distance, never allowing anyone to get close enough to know who I really am. I feared that somehow they would discover my secret, and since it’s not a secret I was proud of I protected it with all I had.

Patience Jonathan, a crude woman, says APC

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Wednesday described the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan as “an incredibly crude woman.” The party also commended Nigerians for putting up with her.
The campaign organisation was reacting to a report that Mrs. Jonathan described the APC Presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as brain dead at a campaign rally in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, on Tuesday.
Mrs. Patience JonathanThe President’s wife also warned women against voting for Buhari because, according to her, the APC presidential candidate would put women in purdah and trample on their rights.
Patience had added that old people might not reason very well because of their ageing mind.
She said, “Vote for my husband, Jonathan. Do not vote for Buhari. He is an old man. People, when they become old, may not reason well and their brain may even be dead.”
But in a statement signed by the APC’s campaign’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Wednesday, the party said the President’s wife was insultive.
Shehu stated, “It is not only insulting for Mrs. Jonathan to describe Buhari as “brain-dead, it is also demeaning of her status as the President’s wife to speak in the manner with which she did.”
The APC campaign urged President Jonathan to caution his wife.

Police open fire on protesting JAMB candidates

Hundreds of candidates, wishing to sit Monday’s Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, narrowly escaped death in Jos on Wednesday when policemen opened fire on them.
It was learnt that policemen were called in to maintain law and order following the unruly behaviour of the applicants, who became restive over the inability of the board to release their examination slips.
The students gathered at the Muritala Mohammed Way office of JAMB following announcements that they could collect the details of their examination centers from the board.
Our correspondent gathered that the students were asked by JAMB officials to leave their slips and come later to collect their details.
It was learnt that the authorities were overwhelmed by the number of students, who converged on the office, coupled with the slow pace of processing of the information.
The students were said to have become restive when their examination details appeared not to be in sight.
In the confusion that ensued, the officials closed their offices and asked the candidates to come back on Thursday.
At this juncture, the applicants we said to have started smashing doors and windows of the offices.
The policemen were said to have fired gunshots in the air to disperse the candidates.
One of the candidates, who identified herself as Kemi, expressed dismay at the development, saying the officials were endangering the applicants’  lives.
She faulted JAMB for choosing its office as the only center to get the information instead of decentralizing the process.
She said many students might have been knocked down by motorists fleeing from the gunshots.
She said, “The huge number of candidates at the office is enough to attract any suicide bomber and in the event of any such incident, the casualties would be monumental.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Police Command, Emmanuel Abuh, told our correspondent that the police were called in to maintain law and order after the candidates became riotous.

Elections: Ezeife, traditional rulers warn against attacks on Igbos

Chukwuemeka Ezeife
Prominent leaders from the Igbo extraction under the aegis of South East Peoples Assembly on Saturday in Abuja warned against what they described as unnecessary attacks on Igbos and their business interests in the northern Nigeria ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The Igbo leaders also called on the Federal Government to pay compensation to the families of 827 Igbos who lost their lives and others whose property worth billions of Naira were destroyed during the 2011 post-election violence in the northern part of the country.
The group also resolved to declare a three-day National Prayer of all Igbos in the North for the success of the 2015 general elections at a date to be announced later.
The SEPA made its position known in a statement obtained by SUNDAY PUNCH and issued at the end of the first National Summit of Ndigbo in the 19 Northern states in Nigeria and the FCT.
The statement was signed by its leader, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife; President, Council of Traditional Rulers in the Diaspora, Dr. Nwosu Ibeh; President-General, Ndigbo in Northern Nigeria, Mr. Jonathan Eze-Ekwueme and Coordinating Secretary of SEPA, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna.
The Summit deliberated extensively on the safety of people of Igbo extraction and their participation in the elections re-scheduled for March 28 and April 11.
The summit accused the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega of allegedly planning to disenfranchise the Igbos adding, “We condemn in totality, the actions of INEC in doing everything to reduce the voting powers of Ndigbo in Nigeria.”
SEPA said, “The Federal Government should ensure efficient deployment of security operatives including the military in all parts of Nigeria at least three weeks to the presidential elections in enforcement of the constitutional obligations to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians.
“Ndigbo shall resist any further attempt to employ violence to kill and maim their sons and daughters with or without any provocation in any part of Nigeria on account of the outcome of 2015 general elections.
“We urge Ndigbo in Northern Nigeria not to fall for any form of intimidation and manipulation, but to remain resolute and collect their PVCs.”

Woman charged with killing Nigerian girl with butt injections claims Amber Rose was her client

The woman swore under oath that Amber started receiving injections from her before she became famous and continued until two days before the 2011 death of  Claudia.

Under cross-examination, Padge-Victoria (pictured right) said that Kanye West dropped off Amber at her clinic for one procedure when they were dating. She also claimed she was supposed to perform a "correction" on Nicki Minaj that never happened.

About Amber Rose, she said "Amber was like a walking billboard. She brought a lot of girls from VH1."

Asked by Assistant District Attorney Carlos Vega why they would choose an unlicensed practitioner over a LA plastic surgeon, Windslowe said, "I was the best, and I don't mean that to be cocky."
