Beggars besiege Kano streets after Ramadan largesse

KANO—A week after the termination of the Ramadan free feeding programme, destitute have resurfaced on the streets of Kano, begging for alms.
The beggars have taken over major junctions, markets, motor parks, and other strategic locations of the metropolis, seeking for alms.
Some of them told reporters that they disappeared from streets during the fasting period because of the free feeding programme introduced by various state governments in the north during the Ramadan.
Saminu Audu, one of the destitute, said if the governments would continue with the largesse, or provide at least a free meal per day, they would vacate the streets.
