An underwater leakage of crude oil from a pipeline belonging to Eni/Agip facility, was, weekend, discovered near Atonye Kiri fishing settlement in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The leakage, which has already spread to the main Nembe-Brass River, has stopped fisher-men from working.
It was learnt that the leakage was noticed Friday night by fishermen from the Atonye Kiri settlement, while on a fishing expedition.

They were said to have alerted the Surveillance Team of Agip Oil Company, led by one Samuel David, who reportedly contacted the Chairman of Oil and Gas Committee of the Nembe Kingdom, Chief Nengi James.
Speaking on the development, Chief James said that the committee had contacted Agip in Brass.
He said: “As the chairman of oil and gas committee, I have called the attention of Eni/NAOC personnel in Brass to urgently tackle the issue.

“More so, aquatic life and the mangroves, including the waterway, have been polluted.
“It is worrisome that Agip has been unconcerned about issues of environmental degradation and spillages. They have not been cooperating with the affected communities.”
