The Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, March 7 held a closed-door meeting over the forthcoming general elections in the country.

Those who attended the meeting were the National Peace Committee for 2015 General Elections, the service chiefs including the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh; the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, and chieftains of Nigeria’s major political parties.

Punch informs that the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar 111, and several prominent clergymen were also present at the meeting.
None of the officials spoke with journalists after the event to comment on its outcome.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rose Ukeje, only told the newsmen that both the INEC and security had reinstated commitment to the timely conduct of the polls.
It is worth noting that after the announcement of the elections postponement a month ago, rumours started circulating that the Presidency plotted to remove Jega.
Attempts by the authorities to prove the opposite have pleaded unsuccessful to some, as the allegations on the issue continue emerging.
