An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, yesterday, remanded four suspected cult members at Ikoyi Prisons, over the alleged murder of two men.
The accused are Usman Alabi, 27; Saheed Lasisi, 26; Oyekunle Tijanin, 28 and Rahman Isa, 24.
The men, who are of no fixed addresses, are standing trial on a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful killing and belonging to an unlawful society.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olatunbosun Abolarinwa, ordered that the accused be remanded, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the pleas of the accused were not taken by the court.
The prosecutor, Insp George Nwosu, said that the crime was committed on May 16 at Oluwakemi St., Mushin, Lagos.
He said that the accused belong to an unlawful society known as “Eiye Fraternity”.
The prosecutor said that the accused and members of the group, now at large, were engaged in a fight with a rival group.
Nwosu said that the accused shot dead Adeolu Odukunle and Hassan Ibrahim, who allegedly belong to another group known as P-Square.
He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 42, 221, 231 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 221 provides that subject to the provisions of any other law, a person who commits the offence of murder shall be sentenced to death. The court adjourned the case to July 7 for mention.
