Christian killings continue unabated

Abuja - The state of emergency has done little to stop the killing and persecution of Christians by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, a religious the organisation said. The Christian Association of Nigeria cited a number of incidents that have occurred in the northern parts of the country in recent days. The north is the bedrock of Boko Haram acts of banditry, culminating in the declaration of a state of emergency earlier this month. The organisation reported that its executive member in Gwoza Local Government, Rev. Luka Bazigila and a member of the COCIN Church, Yohanna, were shot dead while attending a Christian fellowship. CAN Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kenny Ashaka, added members of the sect also killed the step mother of the Medical Director of the Borno State Hospital, when they could not find the doctor at home. He said a Muslim guard, employed by a Christian architect in Abuja, was mistaken for a Christian and shot dead. One COCIN member on the Mandara Mountain was burnt by members of Boko Haram on Sunday morning. Despite the killings, CAN urged Christians to pray for peace and unity of Nigeria as well as an end to the insecurity.
