Abuja - The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly has denied a plot to assassinate senior state officials including Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
Appearing at the Rivers State High court on Thursday, Otelemba Amachree also questioned the authenticity of a letter police have used as part of investigations into the reports.
It is alleged he signed an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan detailing a plot to assassinate Amaechi and some lawmakers as well as government officials.
“Nobody authored or signed the letter. Police are only carrying out an onslaught against the Government," said the Speaker through a representative.
The representatives accused the police of being biased and urged the court to disregard their application.
Counsel to the Police, Donald Wigwe, asked the court to reject the application by the Speaker to withdraw the case.
The matter was deferred to July 29.
