THE three-day heavy downpour which resulted in flood in Akure, the Ondo state capital have claimed the lives of two Primary School pupils.
Police in the state said that the two boys Adebori Timilehin (5) and Olugbenga Martins(6) are cousins and were returning from school when the flood swept them away and were drowned.
Their bodies were discovered by men of the State Fire Brigade after three days of intensive search inside the Elegbin river.
Findings showed that they reside with their Grandmother at No 14 Familusi street, Akure.
This is coming on the heels of Save Our Soul (SOS) by the state government to the Ecological Department of the presidency over the menace of flood across the state.
Environment Commissioner Sola Ebiseni during an inspection of the havoc wrecked by the rainfall in Ondo town said government had at various times made representations to the ecological funds department of the presidency over the funding of its environmental related projects.
Meanwhile, the Police Image Maker Wole Ogodo said that the proprietress of Newlife Academy, Idanre road, Akure Mrs Bola Olufemi reported that two pupils of her school have been swept away by the flood. It was discovered that the pupils were rushing home because of the rain only to be swept away by the flood occasioned by the heavy downpour.
However the Police Image Maker said detectives are investigating the incident to know if the death of the pupils was as a result of the negligence of the school authorities.
