Lagos CJ frees 129 inmates from Ikoyi Prison

LAGOS — Lagos Chief Judge Justice Ayotunde Philips, Thursday freed 129 inmates of Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, majority of whom were awaiting trials.
Phillips had on September 25, released 119 inmates from the Kirikiri Medium and Maximum Security Prisons in Lagos.
The chief judge ordered the release of the inmates during her visit to the prison as part of activities marking the one-week 2013/2014 legal year which commenced on September 23, 2013.
She said the gesture was aimed at decongesting the prison to alleviate the sufferings of inmates.
Phillips admonished the freed inmates to be of good behaviour and make positive impacts in the society.
She said: “Today, I release you, September 26, 2013, from  prison custody and I admonish you to go and sin no more.”
