Battle to recall suspended UNN pro-chancellor now in high court

The battle for the recall of the suspended Pro-Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Dr. Emeka Enejere, has shifted to the Federal High Court, Abuja, today, following a suit filed by the Alumni Association of the university.
Joined in the court action are the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Ajoke, SAN, the Governing Council of the University, and Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, who was named as new Pro-Chancellor.
Others are the National Universities Commission, NUC, UNN’s Registrar, Mr. Anthony Okonta, and the suspended Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Enejere.
The plaintiffs are praying the court to set aside the suspension of Dr. Enejere, whom they claim was the person who was properly appointed as the Pro-Chancellor, according to the UNN Act.
They also prayed the court to stop Mr. Ukala from parading himself as the new Pro-Chancellor on the grounds that his appointment by the Supervisory Minister of Education, Wike, did not conform with the law regulating the university.
According to the plaintiffs, only the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, as the Visitor to the University, had the power to appoint the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
They further contend that it was President Jonathan who appointed Dr Enejere and had not removed him, and therefore his suspension by Mr. Wike and his replacement with Mr Ukala were both wrong. According to them, only President Jonathan has the power to carry out any of the two functions.
