Night fire razes Lagos shopping complex

LAGOS— The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FEDSARS, yesterday, paraded 24 suspects said to be involved in different crimes ranging from robbery, goods diversion and receiving of stolen goods in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo and Ogun states.
341Parading the suspects, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, yesterday, said some of them were members of notorious robbery gangs that have been terrorising Lagos and other parts of the country.
He said on January 26, the squad received a tip-off and one Tobi Dosunmu and Shile Ganiyu, who specialised in robbing vehicles across South Western states, were arrested in their hideout at Attan-Ota area of Ogun State with a locally-made pistol and two live cartridges.
They confessed to several armed robbery escapades and led detectives to arrest other members of the gang namely Lukman Adenekan, Moses Ozowe and Jide Ishola.
Recovered from the gang is a blue coloured Toyota Camry with number plate ABC-551-JR. The gang confessed to having taken stolen vehicles to Ghana and other West African countries.
According to Ezike, “on February 24, while checking information from a good spirited Nigerian, detectives from the squad engaged a gang of notorious armed robbers at a suburb of Ibadan in Oyo State.
“One Mukaila Adeniji and Musa Adelakin were arrested and a black Toyota Matrix Wagon without registration number, but engine number 2311 was recovered from the gang.”
He said that on February 20 a 40-foot container of power generating plants valued at N13.63 million on a trailer driven by one Abbas Mustapha en-route Alaba International Market, Lagos, disappeared.
Ezike said: “The emptied container and truck were later found abandoned along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Detectives trailed the driver to a hideout and apprehended him.
“He confessed to having connived with others to divert the goods and led officers to the arrest of some members of his syndicate consequent upon which a total of 1,501 out of 1,530 generating sets were recovered.
“Abba Mustapha, Abdullai Mustapha, Michael Oloruntele and Ibrahim Aga were arrested in connection with the theft.
Receivers
“On March 1, another syndicate of stolen goods receivers were trailed to the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos and arrested.
“They include Kuburant Ayinde, Fatimoh Abolakale, Alhaja Muyinat Ogattan, Yetunde Adekule and Lekan Ibrahim.
“They all confessed to working in connivance with one Uche who is notorious for hijacking goods from unsuspecting traders and truck owners on the Carter and Eko bridges of Lagos.
“Items recovered from the syndicate include cartons of kiddies shoes, cartoons of toys, cartons of bales of ready-made clothes, cartoons of school bags, cartons of slippers, ladies knitted tops, cartons of boots, female foot wears, sacks of children’s wears, cartons of towels, cartoons of food flasks, glass cups, among others.”
He added that one Akibu Oke and Sunday Akanbi were arrested in connection with another theft incident.
He also said that one Emmanuel Ambrose and Audu Akeem were arrested over the robbery of a Toyota Camry, registration number EKY-621-BH belonging to Professor Benjamin Nwaneri, in the Egbeda area of Lago
